<image:title>Blog - Q & A with Pippin - Q. Is Sunny Hills Farm a real place? A. Sunny Hills Farm is a creation of my owner and author. However our home is situated in a neighborhood, Browne’s Ferry, that was farmland before the houses were built. When we take walks we do have to go up and down several hills and the cul-de-sac we live in is where the farmhouse use to be.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Q & A with Pippin - Q. Who were your favorite kids when you were a puppy? A. When I came to live at Browne’s Ferry Aiden was 12 and Liam was 9. Both of them loved me and I was a big part of their day since they were homeschooled. Even though Liam was younger, he spent lots of time with me to help me learn to not nibble with my puppy teeth and how to do tricks.</image:title>

Her mom was a yellow lab so we look very different from each other. Merry lived with us for her first 7 years but she now lives with Summer’s godchildren right down the street. She comes over to visit all the time.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Great Family Read Alouds Part I - Humorous characters and situations</image:title>
<image:caption>These books contain all sorts of humor. It can be the laugh-out-loud silliness of a toad recklessly driving a motor car in the British countryside. Maybe it is giggling at the predicaments a country vet finds himself in as he cares for many types of animals. Perhaps it is the grin on our own faces when we realize the silly little bear is a lot wiser than we realized. It does not matter how your enjoyment is expressed. It is more about you expressing enjoyment with your child and tucking away memories of your time together.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Raising Emotionally Healthy Children - As a parent, you are the primary source for teaching your children about emotions. It is never too early to begin to help your child identify feelings. When your children are very young, name the emotion you believe they are experiencing based on the situation. If a two-year-old is having a temper tantrum, you can say, “You are angry because I said no,” or “You are disappointed because we can’t go to the park.” As your children age, continue to talk with them about the emotions they are experiencing.</image:title>
<image:caption>You can also model for your children how to talk about emotions. You can say, “I’m really discouraged because our new plan to get to bed on time is not working.” This helps children understand emotions in context. In naming and identifying emotions for yourself and your children, you are giving your children the building blocks for emotional health. You will avoid having a child like the twelve-year-old boy I knew who told his parents that he learned more from the Disney Pixar movie Inside Out than they have ever taught him. A great resource for helping you name and identify emotions is the Emotion Wheel. A copy of this can be found here.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Animal Habitat Books for Children - This series of books is a great way to introduce concepts about animal habitats, animal behavior, and nature. In Animals in the Winter, we are introduced to several species of animals and how they prepare for the cold, short days. The illustrations provide clues to the meanings of some of the more challenging words, such as 'hibernate' and 'migrate'. At the back of the book, there are suggestions on how you can help keep your backyard friends fed during this season. Stage 1 books are written on a Pre-K to Kindergarten level. Stage 2 books are written on an Elementary level. Explore other animal-related topics with these titles: What Color Is Camouflage? (Level 2) Where are the Night Animals? (Level 1) The Arctic Fox’s Journey (Level 1)"</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - 6 Self-Publishing Tips - MakTip #6 - Take plenty of time to go over your contract You should always have a contract to make sure both parties' expectations are met. If you are looking for a whole package, you need to know who the illustrator, editor, and layout designer will be. Before you sign a contract, ask specifically what your money goes towards. Will this cover all your needs up to the publishing stage? Look for important numbers such as: How many book pages are covered? How many illustrations and what type are included? What is the word count covered in the editing? How much will this cost you? How and when will payments be made? How long will each stage take?</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - 6 Self-Publishing Tips - Tip #1 - Check out the company’s Google Reviews</image:title>
<image:caption>There may be positive testimonials from happy clients on the company's website, but you need to dig deeper. Check out Google reviews. Make sure you read the 1-star and the 5-star reviews. As an owner of a small business, Rustic & Main, I can tell you some 1-star reviews are just from people who are angry about everything or clearly do not want to take responsibility for their actions. Other reviews are legitimate and can point you to the weaknesses and strengths of the company you may work with. Take note of the legitimate complaints and where the company shines.</image:caption>
